Meet Dr. Teather
Dr. Teather attended the University of Maryland College Park graduating in 1985 Summa Cum Laude in Microbiology with genetics research performed with Charles Zierdt, PhD at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda Maryland. He graduated from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1989 with honors in neoplastic diseases research. He did his internship at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore and residency in ophthalmology at the Friedenwald Eye Institute an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. He obtained his fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus from the University of Tennessee at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1994. He has practiced ophthalmology in Brevard County, Florida since 1994. He was one of the first doctors in Central Florida to perform excimer laser corneal refractive procedures in 1996 and has performed over 26,500 LASIK and PRK procedures since then. Between 1999 and 2002, Dr. Teather became the National Medical Director of the The Laser Vision Institute. . In 2010 he was certified on the iLASIK IntraLase Method, the 100% blade-free approach to corneal LASIK flap creation. Dr. Teather has been performing cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation in both children and adults since 1991 and routinely implants the Advanced Optics Aspheric Lens System, SoftPort TM , the Akreos TM lenses by Bausch & Lomb for “aberration free” vision and the Tecnis Aspheric IOL by Abbott for correction of astigmatism . Additionally, Dr. Teather has been implanting the current state of the art intraocular lenses from Bausch & Lomb, the Crystalens® for reduction of bifocal dependency and the Trulign TM Toric for those patients who also have astigmatism.
